CEO of World Economic Forum Steps Down After Epstein Ties Surface

The president and CEO of the World Economic Forum, Borge Brende, has announced he is stepping down from his role following scrutiny over his past association with late U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Brende’s resignation comes just weeks after the World Economic Forum confirmed it had launched an independent investigation into the nature of his relationship with Epstein. The probe was initiated amid renewed public attention on individuals and institutions previously linked to Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

In a statement, Brende said his decision to step aside was intended to prevent the controversy from distracting from the Forum’s mission and ongoing initiatives. He did not detail the extent of his interactions with Epstein.

The WEF, headquartered in Geneva and best known for its annual Davos summit, said the independent review process would continue to ensure transparency and accountability. The organization has faced increased public scrutiny in recent years over governance, global influence, and leadership oversight.

Analysts say the resignation marks a significant leadership shift at a time when the Forum is navigating complex geopolitical and economic challenges worldwide.

Further details about interim leadership and the scope of the investigation are expected in the coming weeks.
