Leopards Reach Round of 32 After Stunning Comeback Against Uzbekistan
The Democratic Republic of the Congo produced a memorable comeback to defeat Uzbekistan 3–1 at Atlanta Stadium, recording the nation’s first-ever victory at a 2026 FIFA World Cup and securing a historic place in the Round of 32.
Uzbekistan made a dream start when captain Eldor Shomurodov produced a composed lob to give his side an early advantage.
The Leopards responded strongly after the break, with Yoane Wissa inspiring the turnaround. Wissa scored twice in the second half, while Fiston Mayele added a close-range finish between the two goals to complete an impressive 3–1 victory.
The result sees DR Congo finish third in Group K and qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time in the nation’s history.
