Trump Says US Will “Finish” Iran War Soon After Declaring Victory

U.S. President Donald Trump has again declared that the United States has effectively won its war with Iran, while saying Washington will continue military and diplomatic efforts until the conflict is fully concluded.

Speaking on Wednesday, Trump said the war would end “very soon”, repeating his position that the United States would complete its objectives in Iran before bringing the conflict to a close. He also said oil prices could fall sharply once the fighting ends.

Trump previously declared victory during a March rally, saying the United States had won but still needed to “finish the job.” He argued at the time that withdrawing too early could force Washington to return to the region later.

However, the latest developments indicate that the conflict remains unresolved. The Pentagon has instructed U.S. Central Command to prepare for a possible resumption of major combat operations against Iran, although Trump has not made a final decision to launch new strikes. Any renewed campaign could target Iranian nuclear facilities, energy infrastructure and other strategic sites, according to U.S. officials cited by Axios.

At the centre of the dispute is Iran’s nuclear programme. Vice President JD Vance told Reuters that Tehran would need to make a significant reduction in its uranium-enrichment capacity for Washington to accept an end to the war. Iran, meanwhile, maintains that its right to uranium enrichment is non-negotiable.

The conflict is also continuing to affect regional security and global energy markets, with tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz adding further uncertainty to oil supplies and international shipping.

Trump’s latest comments therefore come amid a contradictory picture: the president says the United States has effectively won and that the war could end soon, while U.S. military planners are simultaneously preparing for the possibility of renewed major operations.
